TV Reframed Sessions - Of particular interest to the traditional TV sector, TV Reframed addresses the transition to multi-platform content creation. With the Canada Media Fund as the new center-piece of Canadian content financing, television’s top executives are being forced to change the way they approach broadcast models. As digital channels and shifting consumption patterns continue to erode traditional modes of business, how will producers and broadcasters respond and build a sustainable 21st century TV business? Discussions will cover a wide range of topics including: understanding consumer behaviour, the opportunities presented by non-traditional as well as mapping the broadcast business of tomorrow.
On Radar Sessions - Featuring companies, gizmos and gadgets that need to be on your radar, these two sessions are the place to be for anyone interested in what is new in digital media. The first session features speakers from three of the most interesting companies in both mobile and digital:
o Ori Inbar, Co-Founder of Ogmento, the driving force behind ground-breaking Augmented Reality (AR) which is one of the most popular and mind-blowing applications available on Smartphones.

Tara Hunt, Media Marketing Guru, Public Speaker, and author of The Wuffie Factor: Using the Power of Social Networks to Build Your Business added to the list of speakers at this year’s nextMEDIA Toronto
(September 22, 2009 - Toronto, ON)
nextMEDIA Toronto is thrilled to announce the addition of Tara Hunt to the growing line-up of influential and diverse speakers at the Design Exchange, Nov. 30-Dec. 1, 2009.
Tara, a leading authority in the world of online communities, will address the importance of social currency – or whuffie. Whuffie, as Tara defines it (and as originally coined by author Cory Doctorow in Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom) is the sum total of one’s online “cred,” an ephemeral value comprising reputation, influence, bridging capital and bonding capital, access to ideas and talent, access to resources, potential access to further resources, saved up favors, accomplishments (resumes, awards, articles, etc.) This value is, in turn, influenced by the whuffie of those with whom who you share relationships.
She will also discuss how online communities are evolving, how they are changing both culture and business, and how businesses must behave in order to succeed in the participatory web economy.
Tara has spent the past 15 years participating or building online communities; taking her across Canada and the US. In Calgary, Alberta, she created the award-winning Rogue Strategies, which offered on-and-offline marketing strategies to small and medium business clients. Tara later moved to Redwood City, California to be the Online Marketing Director for Riya.com. In its six-month pre-launch - during which she was the only marketing executive - Tara’s community outreach strategy raised enough awareness that on the first day of the website’s launch, there were more than a million photos uploaded and 20,000 signups.
Using the successful marketing techniques she developed for Riya, Tara relocated to San Francisco, where she was the Chief Marketing Officer and Co-Founder of Citizen Agency LLC; helping technology companies understand and better serve their customer communities. Within a month of its launch, Citizen had a full roster of clients.
A popular speaker at events, Tara most recently penned The Wuffie Factor: Using the Power of Social Networks to Build Your Business.

Gavin Purcell-the man behind Jimmy Fallon-joins a growing list of speakers at this year’s nextMEDIA Toronto
(September 17, 2009 - Toronto, ON)
nextMEDIA Toronto is thrilled to announce the addition of Gavin Purcell, the Supervising Producer of “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” to the burgeoning line-up of eclectic and influential speakers at the Design Exchange, Nov. 30-Dec. 1, 2009.
Gavin will present the keynote speech “TV Meets Digital,” in which he will share insights in incorporating new media formats, interactivity, platforms and fresh ideas into the “old school” television paradigm.
Gavin was a Day One member of the Late Night launch team, joining the show in September of 2008. He was a key architect in the “re-booting” of Late Night for a new host and a new audience.
Prior to the show’s on-air launch, Purcell spearheaded its groundbreaking online beta-test. He co-created and produced Jimmy Fallon’s daily video blog, collaborating on the creation of a voice and message to target a ‘Net-savvy audience. Additionally, he worked to connect Fallon with fans via social tools like Twitter and Facebook. These efforts culminated in Fallon being chosen “2009 Person of the Year” by the Webby awards. The website itself also received a Webby, as well as garnering an Emmy Award at Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmys.
Purcell was also the co-creator and Executive Producer of G4’s flagship “Attack of the Show!” - a daily news-talk-comedy hybrid focusing on young men and their technology-based lifestyle. The show covers the gamut of “techie” culture, from gadgets to viral videos to cutting edge humour.
