The Banff World Television Awards is one of the world’s most prestigious international television program competitions. The 2009 competition attracted more than 800 entries from 30 countries around the world.




Grand Prize Awards:
In our Grand Prize categories, we are excited to launch the Green Grand Prize, which will honour the best program that demonstrates excellence in ecologically friendly content. Entrants from all categories may be eligible for the Green Grand Prize.
Our Special Jury Awards this year will include Best Non-Fiction, Best Fiction, Interactive, and Youth & Animation awards, and our International Final Jury will select the winner for the coveted Grand Jury Prize to name this year’s “Best in Show”.

Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy Award - Acknowledges outstanding comedic performance. Prominent comedic actors who have received this prestigious award including Brent Butt, Barry Humphries (a.k.a. Dame Edna), John Cleese, Bob Newhart, Martin Short, Tracy Ullman, Kelsey Grammer, Rick Mercer and our 2009 winner Mark McKinney
Award of Excellence -- Given to an actor, writer or director whose body of work has profoundly touched the lives of audiences around the world and achieved a level of excellence by which new standards are set. Previous winners include the phenomenal Dick Wolf, David Chase, David Shore, Carol Mendelsohn, and 2009 winner Victor Garbor.
Award of Distinction - This award is presented to an outstanding Canadian whose body of work exemplifies achievement and advancement by which new standards are set in the Canadian entertainment industry. Previous winners of the Award include Paul Haggis, Colm Feore, Kim Cattrall, and 2009 recipient Paul Gross.
Lifetime Achievement Award - Previous winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award include Sir David Attenborough, Jon Plowman, Sir David Attenborough, Jeremy Isaacs, Sheila Nevin and John Mortimer. Presented in 2009 to Trina McQueen.
